Saran foil is used to build your own airbursts from binary airburst mixtures, and/or protect other pyrotechnics against water and water vapor. Do not confuse this film with other food wrapping films, as the main component of Saran wrap is polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC). Pyrotechnically, the principal advantage of polyvinylidene chloride, when compared to other plastics, is it's self-extinguishing property when ignited. Other plastic films tend to catch fire and cause burning hot molten drops of plastic falling down.
